As you work toward your Master of Business Administration degree online, you know better than anyone the value and viability of a system of working on your own time, at your own pace, from your home.
The Internet Initiates Change
The internet has made advancing your education more convenient by leading to the development of online programs. Similarly, online connectivity has led to a virtual work “revolution.” Indeed, 50% of U.S. workers do some type of virtual work. Up to 25% are teleworking at some frequency. When you look at how many people would like to work remotely, that number nearly quadruples. Up to 90% of workers in the United States would like to work remotely at least part-time.
Virtual Work is Growing
Since 2005, the number of people working at home has grown by over 100%. Additionally, Fortune 1000 employees spend up to 60% of their time away from their desks. 2.8% of the total U.S. workforce work from home at least half of the work week.
Challenges and Opportunities
As with any trend impacting a large portion of the workforce, there are both challenges and opportunities associated with it. Productivity concerns, for instance, can be counterbalanced by the opportunity to save on office expenses. See more in the infographic below:
