Current online Bachelor of Science in Management student, Shawn Melampy, participated in last year’s faculty-led study abroad trip to Italy!

Collat School of Business students have multiple opportunities each year to travel either to Italy, China or Denmark. The experience counts toward course credit and the experiential learning requirement. It’s open to all level students (freshman through graduate) and all majors at UAB. There are even 3 merit-based scholarships available at $1,000.

“The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s education abroad program was one of the best experiences I have had so far at the university. Having the chance to participate in such an amazing program was eye-opening, and I would highly encourage anyone who has thought about traveling while also completing required course material to take the chance.

I was able to explore Bologna, Verona, and Milan, and meet multiple business people with extremely impressive careers and resumes. The trip was not only educational, it was honestly a life experience.

As an online student, I do not have the chance to meet many fellow classmates and professors. UAB’s study abroad program gave me a chance to travel, make new friendships (that I still talk to today), network with numerous business people, and see unbelievable sites.

The trip was not the easiest class that I have taken with the university, but it gave me the opportunity to learn what it really takes to be a professional in a foreign culture. I will never forget the authentic food, local shopping and markets, and historical landscapes. I recently learned that it is possible to travel with the university more than once, and I have already started planning what class and trip to take next with the program.”
